Cheapest Sushi In Town (with Froyo for dessert!)

This place is one of my favourite places to drop by whenever I'm needing a quick sushi pick me up (let's be honest, when don't I) and also me and my best friend's favourite place to hang out at.
This is me and my sis' FAVOURITE (We call it the jizz salmon roll)!
When this bad boy starts making its way down the conveyer belt we just stand up and walk over to where it is and snatch it before anyone else gets it. Yup we're crazy!

Why? Its only $8 (hkd) a plate!!!! That's $1USD!! For everything and anything !!!

There's no menu here, just grab whatever you fancy off the conveyer belt! The service is rather mediocre but the sushi isn't bad (considering the price!!) And even sashimi is the same price.

It does get busy here during peak hours, especially on the weekends, but the wait is usually no more than 15 minutes but there is a 50 minute time limit until they evict you.

Not fat at all (ok we shared that)

They also have dessert like cream puffs, cheese cake or puddings!!  But we usually skip dessert here so that we have just a little bit of space left for some delicious frozen yoghurt across the road at tuttimelon. yum yum!

Green tea, passionfruit, Angel something (Strawberry and coconut) and japanese yoghurt flavoured froyo with blueberries, mangoes (trying to be healthy here!), strawberrry flavoured crunchy dots, GREEN TEA MOCHI and mango flavoured popping bubbles. YUM YUM YUM. yes i realized that I went overboard after I threw everything in...)

Hello, my name is Norma and I'm addicted to ACCESSORIES.

So after so many Russia posts, here's a quick break for everyone! (There are many more Russia posts to come!)

First day back in Hong Kong, after my classic yum cha/dim sum therapy in my favourite part of Hong Kong - Mong Kok, I had no alternative but to dash to Argyle Centre, my favourite mall in Hong Kong and home to the cheapest and trendiest stuff any young girl would want!

I've been meaning to make a more detailed review of Argyle Centre, with maybe a few recommendations of the best shops, but I still have 6 weeks here so I will try and do it soon.

I had $100 in my pocket, so the equivalent of about 10€. I ended up leaving with $10.

My first stop had to be my favourite store - How much? conveniently situated on the bottom floor near the escalator. The beauty about this store is that everything costs $25! Yup! You read correctly! (Thats about 2.50€). Now to be honest, for the last 2 years, everything used to cost $20 only, but they increased the prices with inflation and whatnot, but I still always manage to snap up some amazing pieces which I always get compliments for, not to mention that I sometimes find stuff which is sold in this store being sold in other stores in the mall or in other malls for $60 or once I even found a ring being sold for $240! Insane!

$25
This necklace immediately caught my eye when I saw it in the shop. But at first it was in another colour, and I wanted something sharper. I knew I had to have it when I found this!

$25
Next I've been feeling the need  of a new bracelet. I often find myself buying mostly Earrings, rings and necklaces, mainly because I seldom find a bracelet that I like enough. Well this was a good day as I found this. I actually have a rather similar leaf necklace which I need to be careful not to wear this bracelet with to avoid looking like a character from the jungle book.

(Left) Hamza Ring $20 (Right) USB ring $25
Last but not least that USB screamed my name and I grabbed it right in time. It is the cutest ring EVER. I love it and have been wearing it non stop for weeks!

Then while cruising around the mall I also came across this new store which I discovered back in April with really cheap accessories too. I was also going to get this really cute 3-fingered lobster ring as they had a $30 for 2 rings deal, and I really really wanted to get another ring as it's cheaper but it was cutting into my finger and I knew I wouldn't wear it if it hurt, so I ended up paying $20 for just one ring, as I think hamzas look cool and i've always wanted a hamza accessory of some sort.

How does it look?

The best waffles (格仔餅) in Mong Kok, or even Hong Kong?

So today I want to talk about my favourite Hong Kong style waffle aka 格仔餅 shop. I have surveyed pretty much all the shops in the Prince Edward/Mong Kok region, only to run flying back to this one. For those who do not know what Hong Kong style waffles or 格仔餅 are I shall explain!格仔餅 literally means "grid cakes" or "grid biscuits" and are usually made by street hawkers and eaten warm on the street. Hong Kongers live a very fast paced lifestyle, and people don't always have time to sit down and eat. So it is very common to see people eating while walking, shopping, and chatting with friends. This is also another reason why I always gain weight when i'm in Hong Kong (due to the highly captivating aromas that surround me, not to mention the sight of everyone munching away) . The waffles (which are different to eggettes, the waffles that look like a collection off balls stuck together) look like traditional waffles but they come in circles with the grid parts divided into four quarters. The waffles are then  spread with butter, peanut butter and then sprinkled with sugar, and then folded in half and served hot. They are a delicious treat especially in winter. These waffles are more floppy than Belgian waffles, and more bouncy/springyin texture. They usually range in $7-$20.

So the shop that I will be reviewing today, lies on Mong Kok Road, on the block in between Fa Yuen Street (fashion heaven! Blogpost soon!) and Tung Choi Street (also known as goldfish street due to the fact that it is full of goldfish shops (duh!) and pet shops full of cute puppies and kittens!). It is directly opposite the road from Fa Yuen Street Market and is exactly where the crossing is.

Apart from making the best waffles in the area, they also make fresh smoothies and juices. My favourite here is the coconut sago drink which is only $8 and is a perfect way to cool down during a hot day while shopping at Fa Yuen Street.

Service is quite slow and it usually takes a while to wait for your food as there is usually only one lady making the waffles, although the shop is quite big and also has another side selling siu mai, fishballs and other various typical savoury street food.

The price is very good! It is one of the cheapest in the area, with the average waffle price being $10+. I have yet to try the other more exotic flavours, as I prefer the original. I have this thing where once I find something that I like I always choose the same thing over and over again!

One time, I tried the eggettes (in chocolate and original flavour mixed together). Sadly they were extremely disappointing and lacked that eggy taste that they were supposed to have. It feels as if the mixture was watered down too much, so I would go for the waffles here. They make the best eggettes in  Tsim Sha Tsui on Nathan Road.

Voila! Le waffle! The waffle itself is crispy on the outside yet soft and moist in the inside (which I think is the best). Although, I think that the waffle lacks eggyness, the lady always generously drowns the waffle in butter and peanut butter without putting too much sugar (just the way I love it!)

And for some reason, everytime I eat a waffle here, I always manage to get peanut butter on my clothes. I guess this is just proof that they put enough sauce!

Sushi with my sister/best friend!

So after school, I went for sushi with my "sister" (we're not really related but we're too similar in so many ways!) at one of my favourite sushi restaurants in town, Monster sushi. It is located in Langham Place, a huge mall in Mongkok, one of the busiest districts in Hong Kong, (I have mentioned this before in my blog, "Crowded corner") .
On the twelth floor of this gigantic mall, is Monster Sushi.
Normally it is absolutely packed with people especially at dinner time and at lunch time during weekends. However, I went at about 4:00 so the restaurant was almost empty and we got to sit at an amazing table right on the edge of this glass pane over looking mong kok.

Just imagine! how this would look like at night! with all the neon signs, lights and people!
The ambiance was also really nice, with the weird bulbous lamps all clustered together. However I must say that the music did not really fit as it was mainly like pop music!

Sushi is my absolute favourite food in the world! I love dimsum, I love Italian food, French food, anything, don't get me wrong, but sushi is just my favourite of all! The first we had was Inari with Mango and Salmon, which although may sound like a weird combination is actually pretty amazing. The other is a seared salmon (which is seared with this blowtorch thing, i saw them do it I was like WOAHHHHHH!) with mayonnaise (i personally like to call this salmon jizz sushi :P  )
Next we had eel and avocado rolls (much better than the original eel), and a toro and salmon gunkan, another one of my personal favourites that I order all the time.
Spicy Soft-shelled crab sushi (it actually wasn't that spicy) and the godzilla roll, a specialty of the restaurant. I had never tried this before, and when it came, we weren't really sure what was in it exactly. However I know that there is a bit of crab and maybe fish? and some cheese, and it is kind of hot as there is some crispy thing on once side so the cheese is warm and kinda melty. It was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. just like WOW.
So so so yummy. I really recommend it!
We also ordered grape sodas, which had these little jelly cubes at the bottom as well, since my friend doesn't like tea, and they offer free green tea with unlimited refill here. It was also cheaper to get two. We also ordered Inari sushi and shrimp tempura sushi.

In total we spent about $250, so it is slightly more expensive than your standard "Genki sushi" but for example the standard salmon sushi is $14 for 2 and the salmon is very big compared to the rice, so I would say it is reasonable.

Also everytime you go they give you this coupon for $100 off the next time you go, however it is only valid if you eat after 9:30pm.
Langham Place!
